Acceptance and Funding
In 2011 we only took 81 applicants on Shorashim. A selection process takes place every year, whereby every applicant writes a motivation and is interviewed by the tour madrichim and movement leadership. Habonim reserves the right to reject any applicant at any time.
The cost of Shorashim in 2011 was R28500 and Habonim endeavours never to turn anyone away from Shorashim based on finances. Limited subsidies are available however, over R200 000 is required in order to ensure that the 25% of channichim needing subsidies can experience the best three weeks of their lives. Your assistance in this regard is hugely appreciated. We urge parents to apply for subsidies if needed.
Once the programme is launched by the Shorashim team, channichim and parents can start the application process.
The first payment is a 20% deposit which qualifies a channich for the compulsory interview process. These interviews are mostly for procedural reasons because we are taking a large group of channichim overseas, it is only responsible to make sure the channichim understand the more serious side of the programme. The second part of the form will open once your child is accepted onto the programme, this will contain information regarding insurance, the medical form and other important information.
The cost of the tour is divided into 3 amounts:
1. Land cost - $1850. This is paid to Israel Experience which is in the form of a dollar draft which we will deliver to them.
2. Johannesburg Flight costs - $1500(international). Cape Town Flight costs- $200(on top of $1500). Both these amounts are payable to Habonim Dror Southern Africa.
3. Admin fee - $50. Payable to Habonim Dror Southern Africa.
Rand amount – several ways: direct deposit (EFT), cheque, or cash
Dollar amount – Only by Dollar draft by cheque
This information will be elaborated upon very well in both parents meetings.
The Rosh Shorashim for 2013 is Lynzi Bennun.
