Sack and Strauss - Mazkirim Sikkum for April Hadrachah Journey 2008

Contents

Build up to the seminar

Campaign

  1. Brochures
    • Use Design from last year
    • Alon Cohen did them
    • Srauss has them in editable format, should just be edited
    • Get them printed at Nippy Print
    • Must come out in Hanhagah 1 campaign
  2. Phones
    • This was done well and must start in February
    • This cannot be neglected and needs constant work from the Tsevet – must be pushed by the mazkirim
    • 2 solid weeks in beginning
  3. Dates
    • During Pesach, watch out for sports tours as this is when King David does go on sports tour, we didn’t get any KDL but we got KDVP so if can avoid then a must.
    • Length of time was spot on 5 days!
  4. Previous Machaneh
    • We didn’t do this and it must happen this year, people who went should speak to Sayarim shichvah and their should be a night in Shomrim dedicated to this
    • A poster/ slide show must be ready for this
  5. Thoughts for next year - Veida and this seminar
    • How many do you want at both
    • This needs huge thought for next year


Education

  1. Tochniet
    • Compiled in a very good manner, lots of past peulot used and must be used again, same for pervious calendars
    • Themes of Ideology for Shomrim and Hadrachah for Bogrim 1 is recommended
    • Realistically peulot will only happen 3 days before and this is ok as long as an aguard happens
    • It was good that some peulot were combined, this was due to a small bogrim 1 body.
    • Ensure Guest speakers are organised well before. Make contact a month before at least.


Logistics

  1. Travel
    • Flights booked in January - get them for anywhere between 250 and 350 per leg! Don’t wait for special, if you get these prices then do it.
    • Make sure 1 person out of the mazkirim does travel
  2. Buses
    • You will need to book buses recommendation that Shirley does this.


Entertainment

  1. Paintball Junkies
    • Contact Franciour - number 082 588 8999
  2. Inflatables
    • Contact Annorien – number 082 376 1709
  3. Recommendation - do paintball and inflatables again


Tsvatim

  1. Choose early so they can help with the campaign
  2. National vp must do this in January
  3. Mazkirim should be the Roshim

  1. If you want someone from Israel to come then must be done early


Mazkirim

  1. Must drive the seminar
  2. Must be the Roshim or have a National head on the hanhagah, this is their project only
  3. Good tafkid breakdown between Sack and Strauss
    • Each took on a shichvah
    • Sack did campaign, travel
    • Strauss did food, entertainment


During the seminar

Food and Meyasdim

  1. Must have a full team for entire duration
  2. Need a Rosh Meyasdim
  3. Ideally they should be an Ekonom so they know the menu and the quantities
  4. See Menu from last year - it was very good
  5. We bought 50 boxes of maztah for 5 days for 35 people – perfect amount
  6. We ordered catered food for 1st day meals and for a few others and it was good
  7. Salads lacked variety (not a major issues)
  8. Spices were lacking
  9. Make sure you get the key for the cage! As dean will take Chofesh
  10. Dairy was an issue and must be ordered well in advance


Entertainment

  1. Paintball guys, they need direction before and during as to what to bring, what games we want to do e.g we want to play capture the flags – they left the flags behind and were a bit disorganized.
  2. We left inflatables out over night – this is a problem, we almost got charged rain damage, so be careful.


Chinnuch

  1. Peulot
    • Sack and Strauss need to include a document about their peulot - which to use, which not to use for next year.
    • Advised that the Roshim call Sack and Strauss about their peulot as they will be able to explain them better than a document.
  1. Chavurot
    • Shomrim must do projects, these need proper thought and attention
    1. Memuna – excellent
    2. Shabbat – was not done well, needs pre thought, maybe a chavurah shouldn’t, unless really determined before by chavurah madrich who is passionate about it.
    3. Siccum slide show – awesome, see videos on facebook, this must happen again
    • Bogrim 1’s
    1. Only had 1 chavurah
    2. Thought that chavurot were important, was a good time and space
    3. Them running peulot for one another was one of their highlights
    4. They did it in pairs
    5. In the chavurah topics were decided upon
  1. Tsvatim composition
    • Bogrim 1
    1. Good that it was a small Tsevet
    2. 3 madrihcim for 5 channichim
    3. No females – not really an issue, this must be avoided for obvious reasons if can
    4. Excellent having an external guest from Israel on the tsevet who brought fresh thinking and ideas on the table (recommended)
    • Shomrim
    1. Good composition
    2. Some where at different levels to others (Lisa came up late and was not as solid in peulot as others, therefore avoid for future, if Lisa in the movement next year she should do Bogrim 1)
    3. Almost all of their shorahsim madrichim where on the Tsevet – this was excellent (4 out 5, with Kev coming up for the weekend)
    4. Sacks external person did not get on with the Tsevet, they can’t go in thinking they can have a massive effect on the tochniet as time is limited.


Highlights to be repeated

  1. Bogrim 1 changed the tochniet and went for a hike to Fernkloof and went to the organic market afterwards and must be repeated.
  2. Peer led peulot and Spontaneous Hadrachah were a big hit
  3. Funny announcements
  4. Ruach
  5. Fire side activities
  6. Madrichim
  7. Zach’s shnat peulot must be repeated – check the tochniet folder
  8. Shomrim peulot were really top, obviously could be even better.
  9. Good Joburg and Cape Town ratio which really made it
  10. Sleeping in docsville was good chevurati

Failures/ Low lights to be improved on

  1. Life guards
  2. Medical kit and need a medic (even though no issues occurred)
  3. Dean didn’t leave all of his keys
  4. Peulot were not 100% organised
  5. Need a rosh techni that can set up photocopier, printer, internet, hot water, lighting, and urns – this must all be done before you arrive and need someone throughout. This must be organised early
  6. Shlichsville must be very attractive and set up before
  7. Mazkirim must go into the seminar well rested
  8. No Shabbat day play – this was a nightmare
  9. Shabbat here should be of the highest standard and represent

Recommendations for next year

  1. This seminar must happen again
  2. Should happen for Shomrim and bogrim 1’s
  3. Must happen on the campsite again as one venue
  4. Bogrim 1’s went on mini mach and did not attend the seminar , this was a huge mistake and maybe you should only be allowed to be a madrich for mini mach if you attend the seminar
  5. Good to have reliable and knowledgeable ex habo come up to assist (Mikael Hanan, they don’t need to come up for the entire time)
  6. Joburg price can increase next year (make it 1200)
  7. Shlichim will need huge roles for this seminar for next year and must help mazkirim in full
  8. Campaign this for next year at Machaneh
  9. Have a Rosh Techni
  10. The movement can make a 10K loss on this seminar and must budget carefully for this and beat our budget
