Financial
Assistance

Before reading the cost break down, please be aware that we have measures in place for those who need financial assistance to attend our Machanot. The Alec Rogoff ‘Assist-A-Camper’ fund is where we set money aside to help our Chaverim who want to experience Habo magic but cannot necessarily afford it on their own.

We use this fund for subsidies, and also payment plans. Therefore if you cannot afford Machaneh, you are able to apply for a subsidy, and if you can afford Machaneh, but not all at once, you are able to apply for a payment plan. To apply for either of these forms of financial assistance, please begin the signup process and follow the appropriate prompts. However, please note that we are unable to make any promises until you have completed the application process and we have come to an agreement.

Similarly, if you are able to contribute to the Alec Rogoff ‘Assist-A-Camper’ fund and give a child opportunities of a lifetime, please consider making a donation. We subsidised over 30% of campers at previous Machanot and it seems clear that this year the number of subsidy requests will increase once again. We estimate that we will need to raise in excess of R800 000 in order for these children to participate in this unforgettable and fulfilling experience. Over many years, the kindness and generosity of members of the community, Jewish organisations and the parents of other participants has ensured that we have raised the required amount needed to cover the financial shortfall. Please visit our donations page to find out more. Alternatively, you can conveniently contribute to the fund while signing yourself up and adding it to your own fee! Please begin the signup process and follow the appropriate prompts to do so.

We thank you for your generosity and understanding!F

Base Camp Fee

In an effort to simplify the sign up process for Machaneh, we have created one big camp fee that includes most of the Machaneh Costs. This is all inclusive of food, accommodation, security, medical, media, campsite and admin staff and much more. The only costs not included in this fee are travel and extras such as tuckshop and merchandise.

We have made a concerted effort to keep costs to a minimum and feel that this price is reasonable for weeks of fun, education and supervision that your children will receive.

Ne’arim (teens)

Thus, the base fee for Ne’arim (teens) for Machaneh 2023 will be R11 335.

We are also offering an ‘Early Bird Special’ available until 10th September, the saving is noticeable with the total Camp Fee being brought down to R10 770. To qualify for this discount, payment must be made before or on the 10th of September 2023.

Also please be advised we will be charging a ‘Late Camp Fee’ of R11 900 for payments made after the 10th November.

Shtilim (grades 5&6)

Shtilim will be having a shorter camp and therefore a reduced base fee.

Thus, the base fee for Shtilim (grades 5&6) for Machaneh 2023 will be R9 650.

We are also offering an ‘Early Bird Special’ available until 10th September, the saving is noticeable with the total Camp Fee being brought down to R9 170. To qualify for this discount, payment must be made before or on the 10th of September 2023.

Also please be advised we will be charging a ‘Late Camp Fee’ of R10 130 for payments made after the 10th November.

Travel

The other contributor to the total cost of Machaneh is the cost of getting to our campsite – the Travel Cost. Since the majority of our Chaverim are from either Cape Town or Johannesburg, the travel cost will depend on where you are coming from before camp, and where you are going to after camp. Our signup form is far more comprehensive, so please begin the signup process to find out more!

Please note that:

  • the following prices are for one-way travel, and not round-trips.
  • the travel cost for Ne’arim (teens) and Shtilim (grades 5&6) are slightly different as they are traveling on different days.

Cape town

(bus – one-way)

Ne’arim (teens) – R865

Shtilim (grades 5&6) – R900

Johannesburg

(plane & bus – one-way)

Ne’arim (teens) – R2 400

Shtilim (grades 5&6) – R2 485

Plettenberg Bay

(bus – arrival only)

A very popular post-camp destination is Plettenberg Bay, and we can take you there!

A seat on the bus to Plett costs R1515.

Other

Any other travel, including to or from other destinations, or travel on non-standard days (if approved), is considered special travel. If this applies to you please begin the signup process to apply for special travel ASAP so we can see if we can make accommodations for you.

Extras

Machaneh Merchandise

This year, the following machaneh merchandise is available. Please ensure that if you want to purchase any merchandise, you order this before camp (on the financial page of this form) as you will not be able to order it during or after camp:

  • Official Machaneh T-shirt – every camper will receive one free of charge
  • Habonim Dror Chultzah – the Habonim Dror uniform: blue shirt with red string; compulsory if you do not have one!
  • Habonim Dror 2023 Hoodie – Unique every year

Tuckshop

We recommend R450 for each Channich’s individual tuckshop allowance. Money unspent by the end of camp will not be refunded, but donated to the Alec Rogoff Assist-A-Camper Fund to help Channies with financial constraints attend our programmes.

Luggage Bags

These bags can hold a pillow, sleeping bag, sheet, stretcher and mattress, thus allowing campers to transport all of their sleeping things without having to worry about anything getting misplaced.

These bags only cost R140 and will last you for many Machanot in the future: they are definitely not compulsory but are a nice and helpful addition to your camping luggage.
